NCA Cheer Shooting
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has implemented specific rules for cheerleading teams, including prohibited movements and penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Prohibited Movements
- Cheers are not allowed to touch or block the opponent's face.
- Cheers cannot jump over the front of another team, including in non-contact scoring zones.
- Sweeps and tumbling passes may be attempted with two consecutive flips as a single sweep if they do not interfere with the opponent's movement.
Penalties
- Unsportsmanlike Conduct:
- Cheers that interfere with an opponent's movement or block their face are penalized a point each time.
- Cheers that touch the opponent's back, shoulders, or sides are penalized two points each time.
- Unsportsmanlike Conduct ( continued ):
- Cheers that block an opponent's face repeatedly without a point deduction are penalized three points each time.
- Cheers that touch or interfere with the opponent's front, head, or back after contact or unsportsmanlike conduct are penalized four points each time.
Coaches and Referees
The National Association of Cheer Coaches (NACC) has implemented rules for coaches to enforce the prohibited movements rule on cheerleaders during competitions.
Tournament Rules
NCAA Competition has its own set of rules for tournament competition in cheerleading.
