A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means that there is a risk of developing severe thunderstorms in or near the watch area within the next 6 to 12 hours. Conditions are favorable for severe weather, but no storms have been reported yet.
Current Weather Conditions
As of our last update at 4:42 AM, there are currently no active watches, warnings, or advisories in effect for the area. The focus is on monitoring fog development overnight in the far northern and northwest suburbs of Chicago.
Stay Safe During a Thunderstorm
- Seek shelter indoors immediately if you are outdoors.
- If you cannot get inside, find a low-lying area with hard cover.
- Avoid using electrical appliances and unplug them.
- Stay away from windows and doors.
- Do not use corded phones during the storm.
Additional Weather Warnings
In addition to the Severe Thunderstorm Watch, there is a Small Craft Advisory in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 1 PM CDT Wednesday. The advisory covers northeast winds up to 25 kt and significant waves up to 7 ft. Be cautious if you are planning any outdoor activities.
